I genuinely enjoy type and love the meticulous nature of its design and layout. The Joy of Type is a guide to both type design and typographic rules. Using contrast to differentiate between typographic treatments throughout the guide, annotations were used beside the different type treatments to enhance the reader’s understanding of the material. The manual seamlessly gives the viewer a look into the different type designs, all while teaching type design specifics. In addition to this, The Joy of Type also features found type, photographed by myself, as well as a type face collage inside the front cover. Both of these elements display the carefree, fun side of typography. The combination of this guide’s informative presentation of basic typographical rules and designs, in addition to its thoughtful layout and organization provides the reader with a robust and interesting typographic manual.
